Celebrating 100 Years of Faith, Community, and Connection
On Sunday, June 8, Runnymede United Church marked a joyful milestone — 100 years as a faith community in west Toronto. From start to finish, the day was filled with warmth, gratitude, and connection.
☕ The celebration began with coffee on the lawn, where long-time members reconnected, new faces were welcomed, and stories were shared over lemonade and sunshine. The service that followed was a heartfelt gathering of past and present, honouring both our rich history and our continued call to live out faith in action.
⛪ Rev. Linda Levin, who served as minister of Runnymede for 29 years, returned to preach a moving and deeply meaningful sermon. With special music, communion, the opening of a time capsule, and a sanctuary full of familiar faces, it was a moment to remember — full of reflection and joy.
📸 Displays of archival photos and memorabilia gave everyone a chance to revisit decades of shared ministry, celebration, and change. Thank you to everyone who contributed memories, stories, and snapshots from years gone by.
We were especially honoured to welcome MP Karim Bardeesy and MPP Rev. Alexa Gilmour, who joined us for the service. Following the event, MP Bardeesy spoke about Runnymede United in the House of Commons, reflecting on our 100-year legacy and the enduring values of unity, reconciliation, and outreach that continue to shape our work today.
🙏 Thank you to every volunteer, committee member, guest, and supporter who made this day possible. Here’s to the next 100 years of faith, hope, and community at Runnymede United Church.
