Jewitt Hall Ramp Project Announcements
Project Update - August 2026
Our Jewitt Hall interior ramp project has been delayed because we were unable to get our building permit in June as expected. After two rounds of information requests and rejections from the City of Toronto, our architects successfully made the case that small variations should be accepted given the context of a 100-year-old building. This took an extra five weeks, leading us to early August.
Exploratory work began this week, cutting small holes to examine what is “behind the plaster” and we believe this will be sufficient to confirm the underlying ramp measurements, structure and supports. Once these drawings are done, the actual steel ramp can be ordered. The major hallway demolition and ramp construction are now expected to happen in September and October.
Jewitt Hall Accessibility Ramp
In order to improve accessibility at Runnymede United Church, we are renovating the Jewitt Hall main floor hallway and the south-west corner of the Sanctuary. This will create an accessible route to staff offices and the Kingsbury Room by replacing the Jewitt hallway stairs with a ramp. Click the link below to learn more.
